The experience and the sound of American Jazz through his favourite instrument : the oboe.

 

Emmanuelle Somer, was born in Brussels on the 5th of January 1972. She studied with Paul Dombrecht at the “Koninklijk Consrvatorium” in Brussels where she got the prizes for Oboe, English Horn, music theory and chamber music. Emmanuelle studied also free improvisation with Fabrizio Casol, Michel Massot and Garret List. She tours and performs in Europe with Michel Massot, Stephane Galland, Kris Defoort, Pierre Vandormael, Claudio Puntin...

For the Jazz, Emmanuelle chooses to cross the Atlantic in order discover its cradle. She receives a full scholarship which allowes her to study at the Berklee College of Music of Boston where she got her degree with “Magna cum Laude” in 1996 in composition and improvisation, learning also the experience of 300 concerts and 600 hours in studio. In 1997, Emmanuelle establishes herself in New York, where she performs with Dave Douglas, Dave Gilmore, Chris Potter, Jim Black, Lindsey Horner, to mention only the most famous, she also performs regulary at the Knitting Factory. She teaches at the Staten Island Music Conservatory and organises regularly training courses of improvation.

Emmanuelle is the Award-Winner of 1996 of the Berklee Concerto Competition, finalist of the Contest Tenuto 1997 and finalist of the International Hoeilaart Jazz contest 1998.
